As a community volunteer it's hard to keep up with Donald Roy. Donald is an active member of the board of Uxbridge First Holiday Night Committee, volunteers with Alternatives during the Valley Friendship Tour, during plays and at Alternatives' Farmers Market. He's been involved with Meals on Wheels and is part of the Blackstone Valley Self Advocacy Committee.

Now Donald's contributions to the community have been recognized as he has received the Arc of Massachusetts Michael Becker Award for Personal Achievement and Community Service. The award was presented to Donald at a ceremony at the State House on September 16th.

In nominating Donald for the award, Lisa Hella, Program Developer at Alternatives, said "Donald is a role model for all the people he comes in contact with. He has been a part of Alternatives for 30 years and is now in Supported Living." She also notes that this is not Donald's first award. He received a Leadership Award from Alternatives for his work with Uxbridge First Holiday Night.

Joining Donald at the State House award ceremony were members of his family, members of Alternatives staff and members of the Uxbridge First Holiday Night Committee. Speaking for the Committee, Holly Gallerani said, "Our members are delighted and honored that Donald is being recognized for the Michael Becker Award. Donald has been and continues to be a positive asset to our Committee."

In accepting the award, Donald said, "Receiving this award is a very great honor and I have to thank my family and Alternatives for their support and Everyone at First Holiday Night. I like working with them. They're a great bunch of people."
